The more we know about our children the easier it is to parent them. How do we get to know our children? We talk to them! We listen to what they are telling us. We watch their body language. We feel their feelings. We ask open-ended questions. We get into their world and try to see their perspective. When we do this, amazing communication happens and the journey of being a parent is so much more rewarding.

I have two children who are now successful adults. The road was not always easy, but once I started practicing the positive discipline approach magic started happening in our relationship, communication bloomed and our relationship is still strong to this day.

I am also a grandmother of three young children, which keeps me in tune to what families are facing today.

I have been in the field of Early Childhood Education for thirty-three years.
My experience comes from many different avenues in the field.

  • I started working with families and children when I was owner and director of a childcare center. Building relationships with parents was an important part of the success I had in providing quality care for children.
  • In 1992, I became a mentor for early childhood education students at the local community college. Teaching and mentoring students in techniques that work best with young children in the classroom setting.
  • From 1996-2000, I worked as a parent advocate in the Head Start program. I helped support families to reach their goals in life. Many goals where set around being a better parent, this gave me the opportunity to introduce the Positive Discipline approach to parents.
  • In 2000, I started working for a child abuse prevention agency as a Child Development Specialist, I assisted parents in becoming knowledgeable of their child’s stages of development and advised appropriate interaction with their child.
  • I began teaching parenting classes in 2000.
    Topics of my classes included:
    • Play and Grow
    • Early Literacy
    • Positive Discipline
    • Amazing Journey “Your Child’s Development”
